Aloha Blocks
Aloha Blocks capture the colorful spirit of the southern California and Hawaiian Surf cultures.
They document the feel of classic surf spots, frozen moments in time, and weathered buildings that are sadly
disappearing everyday.
The photography is done by Deb and Greg Haugen, the final products created with the help of Deb’s 30 years as a professional artist.
When Deb heard about all of the older wood frame buildings that were slated for demolition, she immediately started to draw and photograph them before it was too late. Sitting on the hood of her car drawing in front of Aoki’s shaved ice, she realized that the surf culture of days gone by, the look of the Islands, and also in southern Calif. where she splits her time, was slowly disappearing. It would not be too long before these classic old clapboard buildings were just a memory. She knew as an artist she must capture that spirit.
Aloha Blocks were born, and are museum quality archival ink prints, on handmade birch hardwood cradles.
The artworks come in different sizes, and are easy to group, hang or sit together on a wall, bookcase, desk, or tabletop. Create your own assemblage of a memory, a vacation, drift off into a daydream, and make it your own.
Now go create your own escape!

DEB, I saw you on linked in and just have to tell you congrats first of all on your licensing… I’m now working towards the same. However just have to say that I lived in Malibu for 17 years, most of it on the beach at County Line and I MISS THE SURF CULTURE… NEPTUNES NET? geeeezeee… I have many friends there and need to visit more often. I am an artist of course but I also spent those years working as a set painter. Now I live on the water back East on the Chesapeake Bay, an hour from the ocean but there’s nothing like MALIBU and the surf all day long!
GOOD LUCK with your endeavors! I LOVE THE SURF CULTURE YOU’RE CAPTURING! makes want to have a beach blanket bingo!
cheers!
